This will probably be a quick post, but I want to get in the habit of updating regularly. Yesterday Sarah got her gallbladder out. She has been sick for a long time. She self-diagnosed as gluten-intolerant about 2 years ago and has been eating gluten-free ever since, but lately she's been having stomach aches every time she eats, or if she doesn't, and as of last weekend, she was just in absolute misery -- she hasn't been able to go to work or do much of anything. A PEPIDA test showed her gallbladder at 0% functionality, so they got her in for surgery asap. Anyway, we had planned to go to Kansas City this weekend, so I had already asked for vacation, so instead of going on the trip, yesterday I took her to the hospital and sat with her and talked to the doctor for her, etc. Everything went well -- the surgery was laproscopic, with just one incision in her belly button, but she is still in a lot of pain. There was some minor drama with less-than-competent nurses and me not being able to find the prescription for her pain meds, but overall, things are going as well as can be expected. She's staying at my apartment because she doesn't have a bed right now (hers broke a while back and the replacement air matress conveniently sprung a leak on Wednesday). I'm about to go wake her up and see if she wants some lunch. Right now it's soup and rice crackers, most likely, but I hope soon she'll be able to eat normally and hopefully even be a little less sensitive to gluten (she's really hoping to be able to eat fries cooked in oil with breaded things without getting sick from cross-contamination.) Okay, back to my nursely duties :)
